Jorge Rivera-Herrans is the sole writer of Epic. Originally Jorge was going to become a doctor from the Notre Dame university, but he would later realize he had wanted to study musical theatre. Jorge started making his Epic project in 2019, just one year later, in 2020, he would go on to host vocal auditions for the characters and ensemble of Epic on the popular app TikTok. After 3 years the first saga would come out, the Troy saga. Epic the musical is a sung through musical based on Homers Odyssey.
The original Odyssey was written in ancient Greece by Homer, a poet, Homer had other popular works as well for example, The Iliad. Epic the musical consists of two acts and 9 sagas with the average saga consisting of 4 songs. The final saga released December 25th, 2024, but the creator plans to release some of the fan favorite cut songs later. There is a multitude of cast and characters as stated, the auditions were hosted on TikTok with the last being posted on August 29th, 2022.
One of the fan favorite auditions where Troy Doherty, who got the role of the Greek god, Hermes. Another notable audition was Barbra Wangui, the voice actor for Calypso, yet some of the characters didn’t have to audition, for example the character Anticlea, Odysseus’ mom, was sung by Jorges’s mom while Jorge played Odysseus. Although Epic isn’t an on-stage musical, yet, there are many animatics drawn out by talented artists on places like TikTok, YouTube, and many others. Some of the saga release parties are still archived publicly on Jorges YouTube account (@JayHerrans) from when the wisdom, saga until the Ithaca saga.
