Sometimes our friends say stuff that upsets us or makes us uncomfortable. When this happens it’s best to tell them directly that it makes you uncomfortable or upset. More often than not, your friend doesn’t know what they said affected you. You can try saying, “Hey____. What you said earlier about___________, was very hurtful to me or made me feel very uncomfortable. Could you try not to talk about it with me again?” If they still continue to say those things, it’s best to tell a parent or teacher.
How do I escape the drama?!?
The thing about middle school is that there is always drama, and honestly it is best to stay out of it or not to pick sides. If you already got sucked in, don’t gossip about it or say that anybody was in the wrong unless they actually were. Dramas tend to revolve around a conflict that happens with some of the people in the friend group, so it’s best to get them to see both sides of the story. If the drama was between you and another friend talk to them and work it out together or make a compromise. If they were mean, you can use the early paragraph, How do I tell my best friend they are being mean? to tell them. But sometime certain drama is best to tell a trusted adult about, especially if it escalates.
